The city is seeking applicants for its housing board.
There’s an opening on the Great Falls Housing Authority Board of Commissioners for a tenant member for the remainder of a two-year term through June 30, 2026.
The board consists of seven commissioners appointed by the commission, two of whom are tenant members and five are non-tenant members.
Applicants for this vacancy must be a resident of housing authority properties, living on the main site, Austin Hall, Sunrise Courts, Yeoman Tynes, Russell, Sand Hills, Holland Court Apartments or be a tenant participating in the GFHA Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program.

Non-resident members should have expertise in the areas of law, architecture, real estate, engineering, finance, clergy or social work.
Under state law, terms for non-resident members are five years and terms for resident members are two years.
City officials may not serve on the board per state law.
City Commissioners established the housing board by resolution in 1938.
Housing Authority terminates city management contract [2022]
The authority provides “safe, decent, sanitary and affordable housing for the community’s low income residents. They also set policy for operation and management of public housing properties, HUD-Section 8 programs, and other affordable housing programs. The board also serves as the loan committee for the city’s housing rehabilitation program,” according to the city.
The board meets the third Thursday of the month at noon for about two hours.

The housing authority operates independently since terminating the management agreement with the city in 2022.
Housing authority employees that previously fell under the city were transferred to the authority and off the city payroll when that agreement ended.
The city maintains an agreement with the housing authority for policing services.
The Great Falls Housing Authority owns and operates five public housing complexes, manages the federal Section 8 housing program and has 32 units of affordable housing in the city, according to the agency.
The public housing and Section 8 programs provide rental assistance to income-eligible individuals.

The GFHA is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and governed by a seven-member board appointed by the city commission. The appointment process didn’t change with the terminated contract.
