City approved $1 million contract for East Fiesta Street reconstruction
The project replaced a stretch of road that had been the subject of numerous resident complaints and recurring maintenance issues, according to city staff.
The paved surface on East Fiesta was considered to be in very poor condition and had an overcall condition index of 35 out of 100. The city uses the index to monitor street conditions and prioritize maintenance and repairs.

The project began in June 2024 with an estimated four-month completion, but a gas main needed to be replaced unexpectedly, slowing the project, which included closures of East Fiesta, Ferguson Drive and Durango Drive during construction.
The project included removal and replacement of about 4,000 square yards of 4-inch asphaltic concrete pavement; replacement of about 2,100 lineal feet of integral concrete curb and gutter; removal and replacement of 6,400-square-feet of 4-inch concrete sidewalk; installation of 8,100-square-feet of 6-inch reinforced concrete; installation of nine truncated domes and landscaping repairs, according to city staff.
City staff verified that the work has been completed and the two-year warranty began on Dec. 14.
The project was funded through state Bridge and Road Safety and Accountability Act, or BaRSAA, funds and city street assessment funds.
