The Great Falls Public Schools athletic department said Jan. 13 that two soccer coaches had resigned.
Steve Skaer, head girls soccer coach at C.M. Russell High school submitted his resignation, after being part of the program for the last five years, four as head coach, according to Mike Henneberg, GFPS’ athletic director.
CMR girls qualified for the divisional playoffs in 2024 as the No. 6 seek in the Eastern AA Conference, Henneberg said.
“CM Russell High School and GFPS Athletics would like to thank Steve for all of his efforts working with the Rustler girls the past five years. He worked extremely hard to try and ensure that the girls had a positive athletic experience. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors,” Henneberg said in a release.
GFPS appoints three to baseball advisory committee
Ian Deal, head boys soccer coach at Great Falls High School also submitted his resignation.
Deal has been involved in soccer at both high schools over the past several years, the last three as Bison boys head coach.
The Bison boys did not qualify for the playoffs this past year but participated during the 2023 season.
“GFPS and GFH wish Ian the best, and thank him for all of his work in leading the Bison Boys program the past three seasons,” Henneberg said in a release.

Both vacant head soccer coach positions will be advertised on the GFPS website beginning this week and will be listed as open until filled,” Henneberg said, and applications must be submitted via the district website.
