The Montana Department of Transportation and Jeffery Contracting Inc. are extending the closure of the Interstate 15 Spring Creek interchange, Exit 219, through Oct. 3, weather and other unforeseen factors permitting.
The closure will now include both the northbound off-ramp and southbound on-ramp.
Both ramps will be paved prior to the interchange reopening, according to MDT.
Spring Creek exit on I-15 closed Sept. 14-16
MDT recommends using Exit 226 in Wolf Creek to access Recreation Road during the closure.
“We are extending this closure to include the southbound on-ramp at Exit 219,” Matt Widhalm, MDT engineering project manager, said in a release. “This will eliminate the need for an additional closure of the ramps for paving.”
Closing the ramps is necessary to safely due to their narrow width. They’ll reopen with significantly reduced speeds when paving is completed on each ramp, according to MDT.
Motorists traveling through the construction area should expect crossover traffic patterns, single-lane traffic traveling in both directions on the southbound side of I-15 and reduced speed limits.
A 12-foot width restriction remains in place, and all loads wider than 12 feet need to be staged and escorted. Motorists traveling through the project area between 4 and 6 a.m. may encounter brief interstate closures if wide-load escorts are needed.
Work on this project began in April 2026 when crews began removing and replacing more than a foot of degraded roadway material on the northbound lanes of I-15. Resurfacing the southbound lanes is expected in 2027.
