The Great Falls Public Schools district is planning to purchase new curriculum for family and consumer science.
Teachers and curriculum coordinators met over the last two years to update their “know-understand-dos” and select new textbooks for the courses.
GFPS adopts new math materials
Beckie Fribee, secondary curriculum/assesment coordinator, told the board during their July 13 meeting that the teachers reviewed several options and selected Goodheart-Wilcox‘s Child Development: Early Stages Through Adolescence, 10th Edition.
The book has resources, language and information that is relevant and up to date, which was a key factor in the teachers’ selection, Frisbee said.

The proposed textbook will be available for community review in the curriculum department by appointment by calling 406-268-6020.
Frisbee told the board that the review copy was scheduled to arrive on July 10, but hadn’t at the time of their meeting.

She said she was expecting it to arrive soon and once it did, it would be available for review until the next board meeting on Aug. 3, which is when the board is scheduled to vote on the proposed purchase.
The district is purchasing a set of 33 books for C.M. Russell High and Great Falls high schools, for a total of 66 books for $8,244.28, which includes teacher-level digital access for six years.
The purchase is through the secondary curriculum budget.
Frisbee said Paris Gibson Education Center isn’t currently offering the course.
