The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking public comment on a proposal to rehabilitate and repair five bridge decks in Cascade County.
The bridges are at the following locations:
- Otter Creek – about four miles southeast of Belt on U.S. Highway 87 at mile marker 1.6
- Otter Creek – about six miles southeast of Belt on U.S. 87 at mile marker 3.2
- Otter Creek – about seven miles southeast of Belt on U.S. 87 at mile marker 3.7
- Gordon Interchange – about six miles northwest of Vaughn over Interstate 15 at Exit 297
- Separation West Hill – on Sun River Road in Great Falls over I-15.
Proposed work includes repairing and resurfacing the existing bridge decks through milling and filling operations, applying surface sealants, and upgrading pavement markings.
During construction, traffic is anticipated to be maintained using temporary detours adjacent to the existing bridges.
The purpose of the project is to extend the service life of the bridges and to enhance roadway safety features, according to MDT.
Construction is tentatively planned for 2028, depending on completion of design and availability of funds.
Right-of-way acquisition or temporary construction permits may be required and relocation of utilities, although unlikely, may also be necessary.
MDT staff will contact affected landowners prior to survey work.
Landowners may be contacted again prior to construction regarding temporary permits.
The public is encouraged to contact Great Falls District Project Development Engineer Jim Combs at 406-454-5900 or Bridge Design Engineering Manager Darin Reynolds at 406-461-4665 with questions or comments about the project.
