GFPS board completes Hoyer’s second annual superintendent evaluation

Great Falls Public Schools

The Great Falls Public Schools board gave Superintendent Heather Hoyer a positive review earlier this month.

This year, the board formally aligned the superintendent’s evaluation standards with the district’s strategic plan in an effort to “strengthen accountability, clarify expectations, and ensure that leadership performance is assessed in direct connection to the goals guiding Great Falls Public Schools,” according to the board.

During their Feb. 23 meeting, Amie Thompson, the school board member who chaired the evaluation process this year, said that they gave Hoyer her review in closed session two weeks prior.

During that meeting, she gave the board’s public review on the evaluation, which included feedback from all seven trustees and the public.

“It was a strong overall performance this past year and we look forward to another great year,” Thompson said during the meeting.

Thompson said the board noted Hoyer’s clear communication with the board and community, and her involvement in the community, state and professional organizations on behalf of GFPS.

Hoyer told The Electric that there was no change to her contract as a result of the evaluation.

In 2024, the board approved a three-year contract for Hoyer with a starting salary of $175,000.

She assumed the role of superintended on July 1, 2024.

Thompson said that the board found Hoyer effective at keeping the board informed, providing clear and timely information and aligned district efforts with its strategic plan.

“The board believes this evaluation demonstrates steady and effective leadership,” Gordon Johnson, board chair, said in a release. “Aligning the superintendent evaluation with our strategic plan allows us to clearly assess progress toward the goals our community has set for Great Falls Public Schools.”

The board uses the evaluation to guide “ongoing goal-setting and professional support” for Hoyer as they continue working under its three-year strategic plan.
