The Great Falls Public Schools board voted unanimously during their Aug. 5 meeting to open bids for a new parking lot at Morningside Elementary, which is now the CORE School.
Since the district is expecting increased traffic at the new CORE School, officials are planning a new staff parking lot at the school.
The district hired TD&H Engineering to develop detailed specifications to meet city land use codes.

Since the project is estimated to be more than $80,000, state law requires that the district use the formal bid process.
Brian Patrick, GFPS’ business operations manager, told the board that there’s some question as to when to advertise for bids since summer construction projects are typically already booked, so the project may be delayed.
He said that the city has allowed the district to use a temporary parking lot for the school year to accommodate that delay.
The project will be funded by the building reserve fund, general fund and interlocal agreement fund.
