United Way of Cascade County is receiving $22,287 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county through the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Local organizations that provide emergency shelter, food, utilities, supplies and equipment are encouraged to apply for funding through the program.
Eligible local agencies must:
- be private voluntary nonprofits or units of government
- be eligible to receive federal funds
- have an accounting system
- practice nondiscrimination
- have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs
- have a volunteer board, if they are a private organization.
The United Way heads up a team to determine how the funds are allocated and none of the funds stay with UWCC.
A team includes representatives from UWCC, American Red Cross, Opportunities Inc., Salvation Army and faith-based organizations will make funding decisions.
UWCC President Gary Owen oversees the board.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. April 24.
