Men’s: UP defeated Montana State-Northern, 61-59

According to the game recap from the UP athletic department, the Argos scored Davien Harris-Williams scored the first basket of the night.

The Skylights responded with a layup of their own, but a putback layup from senior Freddy Brown III gave the Argos a 4-2 lead.

MSU-Northern took their first lead of the game following a 6-0 run but the Argos tied the game at 10 after a pair of baskets from senior Jake Olsen.

Both teams traded baskets the rest of the first half until a three from the Skylights gave MSU-Northern a 34-33 lead going into the break, according to the UP recap.

The Argos opened the second half with a three from senior Sam Vining, but a jumper from the Skylights tied the game at 36.

There were five lead changes over the next six minutes until a three by senior Jaylin Reed put the Argos ahead 51-45.

Both teams would go back and forth until a pair of baskets from the Skylights cut the lead to four with two minutes remaining.

MSU-Northern hit a layup with thirty seconds remaining to make it a two-point game, but the Argos defense remained strong as UP came away with the 61-59 victory. Harris-Williams led the way with 24 points and Reed added 14, according to the UP recap.

Women’s: UP defeated Montana State-Northern 74-69

The Argos scored the first basket of the game when graduate transfer Ashlee Maldonado drove through the defense for a layup, according to the recap from the UP athletics department.

The Skylights responded with a bank in three-pointer but a 7-0 run for the Argos behind a layup from senior Maddy Dixon and a layup from freshman Keanna Salave’a gave UP a four-point lead.

MSU-Northern made back-to-back threes to tie the game at nine but the Argos answered with a 13-0 run behind threes from junior Kolby Pimperton and freshman Taliah Lee.

Each side traded baskets the rest of the quarter as the Argos went into the second leading 24-14, according to the UP recap.

UP opened the second with a pair of layups from Dixon and following a layup from MSU-Northern, a layup freshman Eliannah Ramirez made it 30-17.

A layup by MSU-Northern beat the buzzer to shorten the Argo lead to 39-31 going into the break. Maldonado led the way for UP with nine points in the first half, according to the UP recap.

Salave’a opened the second half with a layup, but back-to-back baskets from MSU-Northern cut the lead to four.

The Argos stopped the run with a three from Maldonado, but a 7-0 run from the Skylights tied the game at 33 midway through the third quarter.

Maldonado extended her scoring streak to nine in a row for UP, and following a layup from the Skylights, Maldonado picked off a pass and found Lee on the fastbreak to make it 52-49 going into the fourth quarter, according to the recap.

MSU-Northern opened the final quarter on a 5-0 run but a three pointer from Maldonado put the Argos in front by one.

There were six lead changes over the next four minutes until free throws from Lee and a three-pointer from Maldonado gave the Argos a 67-63 lead.

Maldonado hit another three to extend the lead to seven, but MSU-Northern answered with a three of their own to make it 72-68 with two minutes remaining, according to the recap.

The Argos increased their lead to six after a layup from Salave’a and held on for the 74-69 victory.

Maldonado had 27 points and six assists. Lee had a new career high with 14 points, according to the UP recap.
