The new book drops are now in place at the Great Falls Public Library, replacing those that had been in place since the 1970s.
The project was funded by the Great Falls Public Library Foundation for $16,200 and United Materials poured the concrete and provided a $1,000 donation.
Library boiler project complete; foundation funds new book drops, computers, materials
The new book drops are on the east sidewalk between the library and the library parking lot just north of the flag pole.
Patrons can still drive up and drop off materials at their convenience, according to library staff.
The library is “excited to have an easier access for patrons to return materials, as well as increased safety for pedestrians who no longer have to walk about the old book drops,” according to a library newsletter.
Removal of the old book drops has been completed with the old metal carts being donated to the welding program at Great Falls College MSU.
In January, Susie McIntyre, library director, told the library board that the old book drops were installed in the 1970s and had been rehabilitated many times but also blocked the sidewalk and were no longer effective.
