Cascade County is seeking applicants for the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission and the newly established Mental Health Local Advisory Council.
The mental health council is a county government entity that was established Jan. 22 by the County Commission.
The purpose of the LAC is to assist in the improvement of Cascade County public mental health services and to review and make recommendations about Cascade County’s public mental health services to the commission, as well as provide input and recommendations to the Mental Health Oversight Council and the Service Area Authority serving the community.
The Commission will appoint no more than 14 members on the LAC.
The LAC members include:
- 50 percent of the membership shall consist of consumers and/or family members of consumers;
- One provider of adult and/or child mental health services;
- One attorney representative from the office of the city or county attorney or public defender’s office;
- One representative from the Center for Mental Health;
- One representative from either Benefis Health System or Great Falls Clinic Hospital
- One representative from the Community Health Care Center
- One representative from the Great Falls Police Department
- One representative from the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office
- One commissioner shall serve on the LAC and shall only vote in the event of the need to break a tie at any meeting of the LAC for which a quorum has been established.
Specific objectives include the following:
- Examine gaps in child and adult services;
- Identify potential additions to services within Cascade County;
- Analyze and discuss local problems with Cascade County service providers, advocacy groups, public officials and the general public;
- Facilitate accurate and timely communications between the Cascade County Local Advisory Council and MHOAC and the regional SAA;
- Assess the effectiveness of Cascade County mental health services and suggest ways of making services more effective;
- Serve as a catalyst and facilitator in solving Cascade County mental health service problems;
- Recommend needed services in Cascade County to the County Commission;
- Educate the public on mental health issues;
- Other lawful activities in support of and related to the purpose of the LAC .

Historic Preservation Advisory Commission
The county is looking to fill four seats on the city-county Historic Preservation Advisory Commission.
The historic preservation program promotes the preservation of historic and prehistoric sites, structures, buildings, and districts through the identification, evaluation and protection of historic resources within the jurisdiction of Cascade County and the City of Great Falls.
The HPAC consists of four members appointed by the County Commission, four appointed by City Commission and one who has professional architectural expertise as appointed by the commission by a majority vote.
Members shall have expertise/qualifications in one or more of the following areas: history, planning, archaeology, architecture, architectural history or other preservation-related discipline such as cultural geography or cultural anthropology.
Ownership of property listed in the National Register of Historic places may also qualify a person to serve on this commission.
The HPAC meets at noon on the second Wednesday of each month in the Civic Center.
