The Great Falls Police Department released this afternoon the names of those involved in the Aug. 19 officer involved shooting.
The four officers are:
- Master Police Officer Steve O’Brien: He has served 21 years with GFPD. He has been a swing shift officer, housing authority officer, detective in the Investigation’s Bureau, and is a field training officer. O’Brien is currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau.
- Senior Police Officer Kaleb Larson: He has served about 3 years with GFPD. Larson was a former Cascade County detention officer. Larson is currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau.
- Senior Police Officer Adam Stergionis: He has served 3 years with GFPD. Stergionis was formerly a Cascade County detention officer, prior to his employment with the GFPD. Stergionis holds a bachelor’s degree and was a former intern with GFPD. Stergionis is currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau.
- Police Officer Lance Souza: He has been with GFPD since April. Souza was previously a sworn deputy with the Cascade County Sheriff’s Office. Prior to his employment with the CCSO, he was a sworn officer with the Casper Wyoming Police Department. Souza holds a bachelor’s degree, is a certified firearm’s instructor and is a former first lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps. Souza is currently assigned to the Patrol Bureau.
The Montana Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation continues their inquiry into the Aug. 19 incident, during which Charles A. Marcotte was armed with multiple weapons and engaged GFPD officers.

The officers are still on administrative leave, according to GFPD protocol, “as they are progressing forward to reengagement into their primary functions,” according to a police release. “GFPD strives to ensure that officers involved in traumatic events such as an OIS are properly cared for. The administrative leave status is not a disciplinary function in this matter.”
