The City of Great Falls is hosting a Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony at 8 a.m. on Sept. 11 on the front steps of the Civic Center.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.
“The ceremony will remember those who lost their lives and honor the courage, sacrifice, and service demonstrated in the days and years that followed,” according to the city.
Representatives from Great Falls Fire Rescue, Great Falls Police Department, the city manager’s office, Cascade County Sheriff’s Office, Great Falls Area Chamber of Commerce and the Montana Air National Guard will participate in the ceremony.
The following roads will be closed from about 6-9 a.m. on Sept. 11 for the ceremony:
- Park Drive: 1st Avenue South to 1st Avenue North
- Central Avenue: Park Drive to 2nd Street
The ceremony is weather-dependent and will be canceled in the event of a significant storm.
Following the ceremony, GFFR is hosting an open house and pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon at Fire Station 1.
Parking may be limited.
Attendees should not park in front of the station’s bay doors, as fire crews will remain in service and must be able to respond to emergency calls.

Paris Gibson Square Museum of Art is hosting an artist talk featuring Jesse Albrecht, an Iraq War veteran on Sept. 11 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The event is the closing of Jesse Albrecht: Vessels of War and Recovery, an exhibition of ceramic works that explores themes of war, trauma, pain, joy, and healing through the transformative power of art.
Originally curated in 2023 by Kayla de la Ossa, executive director of the School House History and Art Center in Colstrip, the exhibition was developed in collaboration with Albrecht. The presentation also includes a companion booklet featuring essays by Albrecht, de la Ossa, artist Sean Chandler, and Alissa Kost, executive director of the Montana Art Gallery Directors Association.
