GFPS kindergarten registration opens May 1

Kindergarten registration opens at 8 a.m. May 1 at 15 Great Falls Public Schools elementaries.

Registration runs 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and GFPS encourages in-person registration at the elementary schools in the student’s area, but online registration is also available on the GFPS website.

Children must be five years old on or before Sept. 10 to register.

All children living on Malmstrom Air Force Base register at Loy Elementary.

Families registering at Giant Springs, Meadowlark or Riverview elementaries need to bring two proofs of residency, according to GFPS.

Families must also bring birth certificates to register for kindergarten and shot records must be provided by the first day of school.

The first day of school is Aug. 28.

Montana state law requires all students to be immunized against diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus, polio; measles, mumps and Rubella; and varicella (chickenpox).

Exceptions are allowed for verified religious and medical reasons only, according to GFPS.

Jacki Mainwaring, an assistant superintendent, said that 700 to 800 students typically register for kindergarten annually.
