The Great Falls Police Department is working a “serious incident” that occurred early this morning at 9th Avenue South and 15th Street.
Around 5:15 a.m. March 16, dispatchers received report of an incident at the intersection of 9th Avenue South and 15th Street.
When officers arrived, they found a person suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound and that person has since died, according to GFPD.
“Investigators are working to identify those responsible for the shooting, and take them into custody,” according to GFPD.
Police had the area between 15th Street and 14th Street from 9th Avenue South to 10th Avenue South blocked for several hours today.
At 3:45 p.m., GFPD said investigators had cleared the scene and roads had reopened.
“The incident remains under investigation. We can tell you it appears those involved know each other,” GFPD said of the victim and shooter.
GFPD did not specify if they had identified the shooter or if anyone was in custody.
The Cascade County Sheriff’s Office will handle identification of the victim.
GFPD is asking the public to share any information they have about the incident by sending a private message to their Facebook page, calling 406-455-8408 or reporting via P3TIPS.com. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward, according to GFPD.
Due to the police activity in the area, Great Falls Public Schools put Longfellow Elementary under shelter in place for until early afternoon.
