There was a riot at the Cascade County Adult Detention Center around 11 a.m., according to Sheriff Bob Edwards.

The riot occurred in the N pod where 43 inmates were housed at the time.

Members from the Cascade County Sheriff’s SWAT Team and the Detention Center’s Cell Extraction Team were used to gain control of the inmates and defuse the riot.

The incident ended at about 3 p.m. according to Edward’s press release.

All inmates house in the POD have been secured and there is not a risk to the public, Edwards said, but the jail remains on lockdown.

No injuries to staff or inmates have been reported.

Pepper spray was used during the riot.

Edwards limits jail admissions due to overcrowding

The riot caused damage to the jail and Edwards estimated those costs to total over $10,000.

The damage includes broken fire sprinklers, ceiling tiles, monitoring cameras and cell doors.

Edwards said damages were still being assessed as cleanup and repairs were underway Saturday afternoon.

Edwards said he would not conduct interviews Saturday afternoon but might schedule a press conference for Monday if he has more releasable information then.
